Hello, space fans! Happy October and we've got a great month in space to look forward to in the weeks ahead. I'm managing editor Tariq Malik, a five-time alum of Space Camp (once as an adult!) and have been reporting on space for 17 years with Space.com. (I started as the intern!) If there's one thing I've learned in all that time, it's that there's always something happening in space. From launches and landings to the latest discoveries and night sky events, there's plenty to look forward to in the cosmos this October. We start the month with NASA's 60th anniversary on Oct. 1 (Happy Birthday, NASA!), then move on to a crew change on the International Space Station and an asteroid landing by a German probe carried by a Japanese spacecraft, and that's just the first week! Mark your calendars! Here are some of October's space age highlights we'll be covering on Space.com: - Oct. 1: NASA's 60th anniversary. (You can celebrate 63 years since Sputnik on Oct. 4!)
- Oct. 11: A Russian Soyuz launches to the ISS with NASA astronaut Nick Hague and cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Nikolay Tikhonov. Jupiter is near the moon tonight, too!
- Oct. 12: Neil Armstrong biopic "First Man" lands in theaters!
- Oct. 18: Europe's BepiColumbo probe launches to Mercury on an Ariane 5 rocket. You can see Mars near the moon tonight, too!
- Oct. 24: The Hunter's Full Moon rises tonight.
