Space Calendar

Hello, Space Fans!

It's November and the countdown is on for NASA's next epic landing on Mars!

Mark your calendars now for Nov. 26. That's when NASA's InSight Mars Lander will arrive at the Red Planet. Space.com's Senior Writer Mike Wall and I will be reporting live from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California on landing day, so don't forget to tune in!

While InSight's Mars landing is exciting, it's not the only thing happening in space this month. We have two meteor showers to watch for -the Taurids, and the stargazer favorite Leonid meteor shower - and the Full Beaver Moon will shine bright near month's end.

Here's a snapshot of what's up in space in November:

  • Nov. 11-12: The Taurid meteor shower will peak overnight.
  • Nov. 15: Northrop Grumman's launches a Cygnus cargo ship to the ISS from Virginia.
  • Nov. 17-18: The Leonid meteor shower is at its best. Look up!
  • Nov. 19: SpaceX launches a cornucopia of satellites on a Falcon 9.
  • Nov. 23: The Full Beaver Moon shines tonight.
  • Nov. 26 NASA's InSight Mars Lander reaches the Red Planet! Will it succeed?
